Personal Mythologies

Personal mythologies include the traits and characteristics we are told we have. These works include this language but turn the internal conversation around and present images that are driven by dreams, goals, confidence, and innate value as opposed to external validation or assumed narrative.
Specifically I feature my daughter and other people I hold dear. Images of these loved ones are layered with self portraits, images from my painting practice, and snapshots taken from my daily life.
I capture photos as I live & work through my day, caring for my family, studio work/painting, exploring, maintaining a home and traveling often. Everyday moments are documented with snapshots & later collected into representations of that day. I use collaging, layering, multiple exposure, & photo editing techniques to create these images, images that are in a sense a daily log of life. From adolescents I have documented daily activities with both camera & paint. This is the natural marriage of two practices and an avenue to realize the magic in everyday experiences.
Themes often found in my work include references to home & personal growth, as well as time, memory, & history through familial reference & record keeping. Each piece created is a collection of moments & experiences manifested visually.
